As a tourist visiting Dubai, you can claim a refund on VAT paid on purchases you made during your stay in the UAE, provided that the goods must be purchased from a retailer who is participating in the 'Tax Refund for Tourists Scheme'.

As a tourist visiting Dubai, you can claim a refund on VAT paid on purchases you made during your stay in the UAE, provided that the goods must be purchased from a retailer who is participating in the 'Tax Refund for Tourists Scheme'. However, VAT refunds are not applicable to hotel accommodations. VAT is charged on hotel accommodations at a rate of 5%, along with other fees such as Municipality fee, Property service charge, and Tourism Dirham Fee.

The UAE(United Arab Emirates) introduced VAT on January 1, 2018. The general VAT rates involve 5% which applies to all goods and services while some are exempted from 0% tax from the VAT. There are certain exemptions for VAT in certain financial services that are subsequent to the supply of residential estates. Further, bare land and domestic passenger are exempted from the VAT.

As a tourist visiting for a Dubai vacation you may be eligible for VAT(Value added tax) that can help to refund certain goods and services that include the hotel accommodation. There can be a  refund that is made through an electronic integration system with the registered stores with the tourist finance office that has an entrance and exit of the UAE.

To claim VAT for your hotel accommodation in Dubai as a tourist on a visit visa, you typically need to follow these steps:

First, ensure that your visit visa allows you to claim VAT refunds on hotel accommodations. Then confirm that the hotel you stayed at participates in the Tourist Refund Scheme (TRS). Not all hotels may be part of the scheme, so it's crucial to choose accommodations that are registered for VAT refunds. You must retain all the necessary documents, including your hotel invoices or receipts. These should clearly indicate the VAT charged. Additionally, keep copies of your passport, visa, and boarding pass, as these may be required for the refund process. Prior to departing from Dubai, visit the TRS validation points, which are usually located at airports and other designated areas. Present your invoices, along with the required documentation, to get them validated. After validation, you can proceed with the VAT refund process. The refund can be obtained in cash or credited back to your credit card, depending on the available options. Always check the latest guidelines from the official government authorities or consult with a professional specializing in VAT and tax matters to ensure accurate information, a smooth refund process, and for the latest information.
